Former Economic Planning assistant Minister Fredrick Oduya Oprong dies

Former Economic Planning Assistant Minister Fredrick Oduya Oprong has died.

Confirming his death, his son Isaac Oprong said that he died while undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH)

He died on Saturday evening, at the age of 83.

Oduya who also served as Amagoro Member of Parliament will be remembered as a man who lived with a bullet lodged in his head for over twenty years.

Shot

The former assistant minister for Economic Planning and National Development, nearly lost his life in 1994 when he was shot by unknown gunmen in Nairobi.

Gunmen bent on killing Oprong fired two bullets into his head one evening as he entered his car at his home in Nairobi’s Mariakani Estate.

One bullet was later removed but doctors said extracting the other one would be fatal.
