The venue of the wedding which was planned for last yesterday at PCEA Kiganjo Church in Thika, Kiambu changed abruptly after the bride developed labour pains and got admitted at the Thika Level 5 Hospital.
Kaniu was rushed to hospital on Wednesday, three days before the wedding and underwent a successful delivery through Caesarian Section.
Doctors however advised that she could not leave hospital just two days after delivery, leaving the couple with two options: Postpone the wedding or conduct it in the maternity ward.
Keen on not letting anything spoil a day they had deliberately planned for and were looking forward to, the bridegroom together with relatives and friends convened a crisis meeting and agreed to proceed with the wedding in the maternity ward.
Bride misses reception
They approached the hospital’s management and the church paving way for a wedding of its kind in Kenya.
“We had no alternative but to do our wedding here at the hospital. The doctors told me that my wife was not in a position to go home for the wedding and so I requested them to permit us go ahead with our plans here,” the groom revealed.
Hospital staff joined close relatives and the clergy at the wedding in the maternity ward as the couple exchanged their vows.
Thereafter, the bridal team, family and friends relocated to the church for the reception, leaving behind the new bride and mother in hospital.
