Bishop Gilbert Deya Issues tough demands to government while at Kamiti Prison

Bishop Deya is demanding for VIP treatment while at Kamiti Maximum prison where he is being held.
Through his lawyer, Deya complained of poor conditions of cells at Kamiti Prison that don’t fit his stay there.
According to his lawyer John Sakwa, Kenya and Britain promised to accord his client VIP treatment but that is not happening.

The lawyer revealed that Deya is not allowed to leave is room as from 7pm and therefore he don’t have access to washrooms forcing him to use a bucket in his cell.
“He is made to wash the bucket with his bare hands. The single room is extremely dirty and the mattress has bugs which have been biting my client since August 4” said Deya’s lawyer
Deya’s lawyer was making the argument in support of bail application filed by bishop Deya.
“He will comply with any conditions if freed on bond. While in Britain my clent managed to meet the bond conditions and therefore he should be accorded one while in Kenya” requested Deya’s Lawyer

He said the British court directed that if his client is remanded while awaiting trial and that’s a single housed special unit at the prison.
He asked the court to order Kamiti Prison to provide special treatment of accused people.
