Members of the Nyamira County Assembly have issued a notice of impeachment to Governor John Nyagarama.

According to the MCAs governor Nyangarama risks being ousted is if he does not reinstate sacked pre-school teachers.

The Assembly informed Mr Nyangarama that they will not go ahead to vet names of chief officers he nominated and instead they will collect signatures for his impeachment.

The letter signed by the House Speaker Moffat Teya states: "As long as the ECDE teachers have not been reinstated, the vetting of the nominees for posts of chief officers stands suspended."

Irregular appointments

It added: "...collection and verification of signatures for the impeachment of Nyamira County Governor are to commence in the Assembly due to failure to resolve the issue of the tutors," the letter read in part.

However, Nyangarama said that he had not received any communication from the Assembly regarding the impending issues surrounding renewing contracts of the teachers.

He added that the matter was being handled so as to have qualified people properly recruited.

"We know that there were serious irregularities during the hiring of the instructors and that is why we are taking caution to verify every other person we shall hire," the Nyamira governor said.
