DCI reveals GSU officer murdered colleague & attempted to cover up

Details have emerged of how a GSU officer murdered his colleague and attempted to cover up.

Police, after investigating the shooting have arrested the GSU officer after it emerged he killed his colleague at Wilson Airport and then falsified the report.

Detectives from Anti-Terror Police Unit stated that Constable Samson Morongo was in custody in connection with the murder of Constable Stephen Mkangi, whom he allegedly shot dead on July 27 near the airport watchtower.

"After killing his colleague, PC Morongo went ahead to make a report that they had been attacked by unknown people-who killed his colleague & took their firearms," DCI stated.

Morongo has been in hospital nursing a bullet wound he sustained then and which police believe was self-inflicted.

Forensic analysis unearths killing

DCI on Tuesday morning said that forensic analysis linked the officer to the murder.

His clothes were subjected to gunshot residue test at the government chemist and it tested positive hence placing the suspect in very close proximity to the shooting scene.

Morongo had claimed that on the night of the shooting two men had approached him and Mkangi and requested them to accompany them to the nearby southern bypass where their car had developed a mechanical problem.

The GSU officer followed the men who had informed them they were police officers only for two other men in jungle uniforms to join them prompting a scuffle as they tried to grab the officer’s gun.
