How Cabinet Secretary attempted to rescue fake “Uhuru” from arrest

"Detectives warned the CS to keep off the matter"

Suspect Henry Waswa

A Cabinet Secretary attempted to rescue Joseph Waswa, one of the seven suspects accused of defrauding businessman Naushad Merali Sh10 million by mimicking President Uhuru Kenyatta’s name.

The People Daily on Thursday quoted investigators working on the matter revealing that Waswa had sought help from the CS to convince detectives to abandon the fraud case.

The suspect initially learnt that detectives were after him after which he fled Nairobi and heaed to Naivasha.

Sh20 million bribe to CS

Investigators said when he got to Naivasha, he bought a new sim card and contacted the CS and the two arranged a meeting at a restaurant in Lavington.

While in Lavington, the sleuths pounced on Waswa even as the CS tried to plead with them to save the suspect from arrest.

The officers said the matter was being followed from “higher authorities” and warned the CS to keep off the matter.

The detectives added that their investigation showed that another CS had close interactions with some of the seven suspects who allegedly swindled him out of a Sh20 million bribe.

The suspected fraudsters had been sent to collect the bribe only to show up with Sh8 million, leaving the CS bitter over the loss of Sh12 million.
