“I am not able to thank you enough” emotional Joho tells Senator who saved his mother’s life

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Monday shared an emotional story on how Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri saved his mother’s life during a lengthy flight to Dubai.

Joho shared the experiences while appearing before the Senate Devolution and Inter-Governmental Committee where Ongeri is a member.

Before the Governor could answer the senator’s question, he went on to detail his personal experience with the Kisii Senator.

"Mr Chairman, I want to confirm your sentiments on Prof Daktari Sammy Ongeri on matters seniority. All of us have somehow benefited from his service to the country. have a personal experience with Prof Ongeri that I have never been able to thank him enough."

"Senator and I were once travelling to a foreign country and my mother fell ill, four hours after take off and we had nowhere to land. Senator came through for us and took care of her until we got to Dubai where we were able to take her to hospital. So, Senator, I have never been able to thank you enough and I always pray for you,” Joho emotionally recalled.

Ummu Kulthum

Ongeri, currently serving his first term as Kisii Senator, previously served as a professor at the University of Nairobi School of Medicine before moving to politics where he has worked as an MP, ambassador, and as a Cabinet Minister in various ministries.

Joho’s mother, Ummu Kulthum, has since passed on but continues to be a close source of inspiration to the Governor.

The county boss, through his private foundation, built a mosque in Mombasa - Masjid Ummu-Kulthum – which is named after his mother.
