I am treated very well in other countries, I wonder what happened to my own country - CJ Maraga

I will now choose which State functions to attend - angry Chief Justice David Maraga announces

Chief Justice David Maraga on Monday announced that he will no longer allow state officers to disrespect the office of the Chief Justice.

Outlining contemptuous treatment during the recent Mashujaa Day celebrations in Mombasa, CJ Maraga announced that he would no longer attend public functions as is required of his office.

The CJ stated that his presence was not acknowledged by the presiding master of ceremony and he was further forced to use a side entry to the dais as opposed to the official entry that was designated for the dignitaries.

"I have decided that unless I am treated with the dignity due to my office, I will choose which of those State functions I will attend," he stated.

Budget cuts, VIP motorcade, receiving lounge - CJ Maraga's complaints

In addition to the breach of protocol, CJ Maraga highlighted other discriminating practices at public facilities toward him and his office.

"Budget cuts are not an isolated case and this is why I wanted all Kenyans to know what we are going through. The Judiciary has been and continues to be treated contemptuously. The CJ has no Mercedes car, when we applied we were told to keep to the minimum of a 2500cc car to avoid wastage yet both speakers have Mercedes 500 vehicles. That is just one incident.

"You recently read of the attempts to remove traffic clearance for the CJ yet the same was given to junior officers and you were told that it was a mistake...very interesting.

"CSs and PSs are cleared to enter State House before the CJ. The CJ is always told to wait at the sidelines," he stated.
