Mlimani Law Courts on Wednesday charged two women for stealing Sh1.9 million from a man after lacing his drink with a sleeping pill commonly referred to as “mchele” on the street.

Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi charged Joyce Britney and Florence Wangare for stealing the money after Britney spiked the drink of Omondi Okati with Rohyponol on January 17 this year.

The court revealed that the incident took place at Ngei 11 Estate in Langata where the two suspects proceeded to steal the money from Okati’s account at Stanbic Bank.

Britney and Wangare were alleged to have transferred the cash to several accounts at Equity, Family Bank and kept some in their M-pesa accounts.

Spiking gang nabbed

In March 2018, four women and a man were arrested in Kilifi County over allegations of being involved in piking of bar patrons’ drugs and stealing of valuables from them.

Kilifi County DCIO, Mr Christopher Chesoli had stated that his officers had been tracking the group for a while before they apprehended them.

''We caught up with them at a local guest house where three women were in one room and in the next room their male accomplice and another woman were holed up,'' remarked Chesoli.

The police had managed to recover items such as several smart phones, laptops and electronic gadgets stolen from the victims.
