Nine others were injured in the accident and were rushed to hospital.
The accident happened near the Kakuzi farm after a lorry rammed into two matatus that were heading to Embu along the busy highway.
"The lorry driver lost control and collided with the two matatus both from Embu," OCPD Paul Wanjama said.

The area is a major known black spot and has claimed several lives in the recent past.
In 2013, nine people died after a canter collided head on with a matatu at Makuyu along the Nyeri-Nairobi highway near the Kakuzi farm’s main gate.
