Kawangare man arrested for stealing millions from Safaricom
He was arrested after DCI detectives raided his house
Gabantu Patrick Emmanuel, a Ugandan national, was arrested alongside two Kenyan accomplices; Zahra Ahmed and Abdullazac Rajab after they were linked to fraud at Safaricom Sacco, Bamburi Sacco, among others.
The three were said to have been in possession of several passports which were seized at their residence in Kawangware.
It was not immediately the evidence that DCI had gathered against the three who join a list of several suspects linked to sophisticated financial fraud that had hit microfinance institutions.
In 2017, a report by Serianu, indicated Kenya lost approximately Sh21.2 billion to cybersecurity, second only to Nigeria which lost Sh65.5 billion.
Banks and financial institutions in 10 of the African countries surveyed lost Sh25 billion 2017 with governments losing Sh20 billion.
