The Kenya Bureau of Standards (Kebs) on Monday suspended the production of Clover Nuts Smooth and Mother Nature’s peanut butter products.

Kebs, through a statement, noted that the Clover Nuts products from Triclover and Mother Nature companies had been found to have exceeded the maximum amount of aflatoxin content required in the peanut butter product.
Clovers Nuts Smooth records an aflatoxin level of 36.44 ppb, Clovers Nuts Chocolate had 44.25 ppb while Mother Nature’s level of aflatoxin was 27.26 ppb which is more than the standard limit which is 10 parts per billion (ppb).
“Additionally, the manufacturers should recall all the substandard products and institute corrective actions,” read a part of the statement issued by the agency.
Nuteez peanut butter not fit for human consumption
Last Thursday, the Ministry of Health had issued a directive to remove all Nuteez peanut butter from stores nationwide after it was found to contain aflatoxins above the normal limit.
Government chemist V.G Mpekethu had revealed that the type of peanut butter contained aflatoxins of 24.08(ppb).
The government stated that the recall was to conduct analysis for the products from other places in the country.
Jetlak Food Limited which produces the Nuteez peanut butter, had been ordered to submit its food safety reports to the Director of Public Health.
