Angeline who was opposed to the cremation of the MP’s remained skipped the event at Kariokor and will instead travel to Kabondo Kasipul today (Saturday) where she will bury a banana stem to symbolise the internment of her son.
Evans Oluoch, a nephew to the deceased told Citizen TV that “Ken Okoth’s mother will travel to Kabondo later today (Saturday, August 3). Tomorrow (Sunday, August 4), she is expected to dig a grave and bury a banana stem in Kabondo Kasipul. That would symbolise that she buried someone she loved dearly”.
He faulted the late MP’s widow, Monica Okoth, for ignoring the family and cremating the body against their wishes.
“We only hear that Ken left a Will directing he be cremated upon death. None of our family members has set eyes on that said-Will” Oluoch stated.
He revealed that Monica caught the family by surprise after arranging for the cremation in secret at a time when the rest of the family were planning for a burial in Kabondo Kasipul.
“All through, we were making arrangements to have Okoth transported to Kabondo Kasipul and be rested on his mother’s land. We did not know that Monica had other plans,” Oluoch stated.
He defended the decision to have the traditional rites conducted in Kapondo Kasipul at the home of Ken’s mother rather that at his father’s home in Rangwe as Luo traditions demand.
“Why should we bury the banana stem in Rangwe? They have never been there for us. “We only heard about them on media,” Oluoch retorted.
Angeline Ajwang, told K24 Digital on Saturday that she skipped Okoth’s cremation because her traditions do no permit her to do so.
The late Okoth was cremated at the Kariokor Crematorium on Saturday, August 3.
Also missing during the exercise was Anne Muthoni Thumbi with whom he had a son named Jayden Okoth.
