Kenya Airways issues statement as the suspension of Gire Ali takes a fresh twist

Kenya Airways (KQ) has issued a statement on the suspension of Gire Ali, the man at the center of the video showing 239 passengers disembarking from a China Southern flight at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday 28 Feb 2020 amid coronavirus cocerns.

The airline stated that the decision to suspend Gire was informed by a complaint received from the Kenya Airports Authority stating that there was a security breach at JKIA.

“On 26th February 20920, KQ received a letter from KAA stating that there had been a breach of air side security procedure at JKIA involving one of our employees. In accordance with standard HR procedure, the employee was suspended to allow a full Investigation to take place to determine the facts of the matter. “ read part of the letter.

The airline further stated that the investigation would be conducted expeditiously in a fair and transparent manner.

According to the statement, Gire Ali will remain on full salary and retain all the legal rights throughout the investigations.

In its statement, KQ admitted that indeed nature of Corona Virus was a matter of public interest and that the public had a right to receive any information regarding the mater, but there had been a security breach at the Airport on 26th February.

Gire Ali was suspended from KQ after recording the clip.
