High level bicycle riding?

Kenyans react after Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko posted photos of 'high level bicycle riding'

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on Monday sparked reaction on his social media platforms after he posted photos of himself on a small bicycle.

Governor Sonko had participated in a bicycle riding exercise to promote non-motorized transportation as a way of conserving the environment.

While other leaders present were pictured on mountain bikes, Governor Sonko climbed on a small bicycle that seemed to have been customized for him.

"Earlier today, I took part in the high level bicycle riding in Nairobi together with UN officials & Diplomats. The initiative is aimed at promoting non-motorized transport in Nairobi in order to reduce our carbon footprint," the Governor captioned his photos.

Reactions to Governor Sonko

There were mixed reactions from Governor's followers, some wanted to know more about the practicability of the non-motorized system while others generally criticized the county boss.

Benard Marie questioned: "Ulipewa bike ya madem? (Were you given a girl's bicycle?)"

Wilbert stated: "The pedestrian footpaths have been turned to bodaboda lane and hawkers...We are experiencing too much human congestion as we walk on the streets because of hawkers everywhere....leading to high rates of pick-pocketing."
