KU student murdered in cold blood in girlfriend’s house

His girlfriend is yet to be traced in suspected love triangle

A crime scene

A 29 year old Kenyatta University student was shot dead in his girlfriend’s house in what is suspected to be a love triangle or a deal gone sour.

The deceased identified as Felix Otieno was in his girlfriend’s house in Kahawa Wendani with a friend when two gunmen stormed the house, shooting him in the lower abdomen and was pronounced dead at a city clinic where he was rushed.

Ruiru Police boss James Ngetich confirmed the incident, stating that investigations have been launched into the Friday night incident.

Reports indicate that by Saturday evening the Elite Special Crimes Prevention Unit had joined the investigations.

“There are many issues coming up but we are hoping to unravel the reasons. We need to know who the killers are, if they were robbers and why they picked on the student (Otieno)," Ngetich said.

He further stated that the girlfriend who was not in the house at the time of the shooting is yet to be traced.

The gunmen are said to have stormed the house at around 11 PM and asked for the whereabouts of yet another person before a confrontation ensued in which two shots were fired from a pistol.

A team of DCI officers from Ruiru visited the scene on Saturday evening and recorded statements from eye witnesses.

Worrying trend

The murder comes in the wake of a worrying trend of murders at Kenya’s higher learning institutions.

Last month, the body of a fourth-year University of Nairobi student was dumped at Globe Cinema roundabout.

Police are still investigating the incident to establish the motive and the persons involved in the murder of Peter Kahugi.

Another case was the gruesome murder of Ivy Wangechi who was hacked to death by her estranged lover, Naftali Kinuthia.
