Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruyoit criticized for attending party while on quarantine

Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot on Tuesday announced that he had completed fourteen days of quarantine after he traveled in a plane that was carrying a passenger who later tested positive for coronavirus.

However, what was intended to be good news turned out to be a scolding of the Senator after a section of netizens observed Cheruiyot's movement over the last 14 days.

"Woke up with a heart filled with joy. Cleared the 14th day with no issue. It's a tough season for every human being. Let us be vigilant, observe the health rules, pray, remain hopeful & together we shall most definitely win," the Kericho Senator said.

In once incident on March 16 (8 days ago), Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen shared photos of his birthday party where Cheruiyot was clearly seen partaking in the merry in total disregard of quarantine rules.

The Senator had also attended a morning talk show on NTV shortly after returning from London in the same flight where the first coronavirus patient in Kenya had traveled.

"You attended Senator Murkomen's Birthday Party on 16th March, Today is 24th March 2020, the 14 days you are talking about is a HOAX," Charles Mark Dienya stated.

Prominent leaders have come under criticism for not leading the way in self-quarantine after traveling to high risk areas or interacting with coronavirus victims.

Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi, who is among the patients, declined multiple requests to self-quarantine and had to be forcefully quarantined by the government.

Saburi will be arrested and charged in court after he is cleared from the isolation facility - according to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe.
