Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu on Monday averted a crisis in the health sector after he signed an agreements with nurses from his county.

Governor Waititu held a meeting with Kiambu nurses at his offices and later signed a return to work formula which led to the cancellation of a strike that was supposed to begin on Wednesday.

"I have today signed a return to work agreement with Kiambu County Nurses averting the impending nurses strike.

"The strike that was slated for Wednesday has been called off," he posted on his official Twitter handle.

12 Counties Affected

The scheduled nationwide strike kicked off in 12 other counties on Monday following a directive from the nurses union.

Counties affected include West Pokot, Kisumu, Nairobi, Kisii, Elgeyo Marakwet, Wajir, Nyeri, Samburu, Kwale, Kirinyaga, Embu and Kitui.

Kenya National Union of Nurses Secretary General Seth Panyako rejected a move by Labour CS Ukur Yattani to form a committee to resolve the nusrses issues.

Nurses are calling for the implementation of a Collective Bargaining Agreement signed in 2017.
