A contractor was on Tuesday arrested in Kitui County after police recovered Sh100,000 following allegations of county government money being stored in her house.

The officers recovered the money which was packed in cartons after they ransacked the house of the woman.

Reports indicated that the lady, whose identity was not revealed, was claimed to have been stashing county government revenue worth Sh100 million in her premises instead of banking it.

County Police Commandant Anthony Kamitu stated that his team acted on reports after obtaining a search warrant.

“Those are serious allegations and we had to apply for a search warrant, which we got on Monday,” stated Kamitu.

Stolen generator found in former governor's property

In November 2017, police in Tharaka Nithi county recovered a generator belonging to the county government at a property owned by former Governor Samuel Ragwa.

The generator worth Sh2.5 million was found installed at hotel in the county headquarters of Kathwana which is claimed to be owned by Ragwa.

Police reports indicated that Ragwa had opted to use the machine and another one for private use after they were donated by a non-governmental organization during his reign.

According to a county government technical officer, the other generator was sent to a hospital while the other one that was to be used in the county headquarters went missing without a trace.
