Jubilee MPs reveal details of secret plot to bar DP Ruto from 2022 poll
Plot hatched by powerful individuals in the corridors of power
According to Bomet Central MP Ronald Tonui and his Belgut counterpart Nelson Koech, powerful individuals in the corridors of power have conspired to sink DP Ruto’s ambitions.
The plot involves linking the DP to every corruption scandal, real or imagined and tainting his image in a way that he may fail to meet the integrity requirements of the constitution.
“The bashing the DP has received lately over alleged corruption links, including those from rebel MPs Joshua Kutuny (Cherenganyi), Alfred Keter (Nandi Hills) and Silas Tiren (Moiben), have the blessings of powerful individuals in the corridors of power,” said Tonui.
Interior CS Fred Matiangi has also been drawn into the mix, with the MPs alleging turf wars and efforts to undermine the DP, terming it madness.
“Our colleagues have attempted to link the DP to scandals in the maize, sugar and fertiliser sectors…Now we are being told there are turf wars between Mr Ruto and Interior Minister Fred Matiang’i, who is his junior. This is sheer madness”. The lawmaker added.
Uhuru responds to calls to back Raila Odinga in 2022
The developments come as 2022 succession politics take center stage with concerns that President Kenyatta may fail to throw his weight behind the DP in 2022.
The clearest indication of this was the recent warning by the president that his choice of a successor could be a surprise with Siaya Senator James Orengo alleging that the president may settle on NASA leader Raila Odinga.
Confronted with the question during his recent visit in Kisumu, the president carefully chose his wirds, admitting that he had no issues with the suggestion to back Odinga nut maintaining that his focus at the moment is unity and delivering on his promises.
