Mombasa Senator and gubernatorial aspirant Hassan Omar on Monday unveiled his running mate with just 77 days to the general elections.

Omar unveiled Linda Shuma in the coastal city and introduced her as the next Mombasa Deputy Governor.

The two will team up with the hope of unseating the incumbent Hassan Joho and his running mate Francis Thoya.

Shuma is an entrepreneur who currently runs a catering management business dealing with corporate and social events.

The 39-year old business woman has actively been involved in community empowerment initiatives since 2014.

Shuma in 2014 started a Community Based Organisation (CBO) with interests in Education and mentoring community library and scholarships.

She is the president of Lions Club Mombasa Bahari branch.

Shuma holds an International Relations and Business Management degree holder from USIU.

Her selection is seen by many pundits as a strategic choice by Omar as she is from the dominant Mijikenda community who are the single largest vote bloc in Mombasa.

Omar said that under his administration, women will be leading active participants in running of affairs in his government.
