Matiang'i issues new directive to all IEBC officials

A new twist!

Dr Matiang’i has now directed the inspector General of police to beef up security to all IEBC officials ahead of the highly anticipated repeat elections.

“All 290 IEBC returning officers will be protected. We are trying the much we can to avoid excuses with instances of trying. We are going to do anything to secure our people,” he said.

Speaking to journalists in Mombasa, Dr Matiang’i has reiterated his commitment to secure the IEBC officials ahead of the crucial exercise.

“We are completely synchronized to deal with any challenges to the security of the country. We will act,” Dr Matiang’i told a press conference.

The directive by Dr Matiang’i comes even after several IEBC officers in Kisumu were found murdered in the wake of heightened insecurity just during the presidential petition.

We’re ready

Meanwhile, the Wafula Chebukati led team, the IEBC on Thursday announced that it would make some major changes in the 2017 repeat elections in line with the suggestions given to them by election observers.

IEBC Chairman led the meeting with observers at a Nairobi hotel where he was presented with a list of 18 recommendations that needed implementation ahead of the October 17 polls.
