4 Kenyans jailed in South Sudan finally freed

They were arrested in 2015.

4 Kenyans who had been arrested over embezzlement charges in South Sudan have finally been freed.

They had been arrested in May 2015 and had been accused of defrauding the Juba government of Sh1.4 billion.

They are expected to return home on Wednesday.

Anthony Mwadimu, Ravi Ramesh, Boniface Muriuki and Anthony Keya had been sentenced to life sentences along with 12 other South Sudan nationals.

According to the Nation they were freed following talks between President Uhuru Kenyatta and South Sudan leader Salva Kiir.

The 4 were employees of a Juba based company called Click Technologies that was founded by South Sudanese businessman John Aguo who was also a senior security officer in Salva Kiir's office.

Courts found that the business owners along with the employees had conspired to swindle the Office of the President and other ministries by receiving payments for phantom deliveries.

The families of the four had appealed to the government and the United Nations Human Rights Commission to intervene.

Foreign Affairs Principal Secretaru Monica Juma is in South Sudan to receive them.
