The ODM governor accompanied President Uhuru, with his Marsabit County counterpart Mr Mohamud Mohamed, the PSCU said in statement.

"The President’s delegation includes Marsabit Governor Mohamud Mohamed and Kisumu Peter Anyang Nyong’o. Health being a devolved function, governors are a key factor in the delivery of the President's health agenda,” PSCU said in a statement.

State House Spokesperson Mr Manoah Esipisu, prior to President Uhuru’s flight, revealed that Trade, Health, sports, heritage were at heart of the bilateral talks.

President Kenyatta who in the company of Governor Nyong’o visited Cuba’s leading research and pharmaceutical group, Labiofam on Wednesday, announced a collaborative engagement with “Cuba to significantly improve Kenya’s fight against malaria, with a sharp focus on near eradication,” the Head of State said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, President Uhuru Kenyatta, accompanied by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Cabinet Secretary Amb Monica Juma, Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Achesa Mohamed and Health Chief Administrative Secretary Dr Rashid Amani, on Friday, laid a wreath at the monument of the National Hero “Jose Marti” in Havana.

Cuban leadership said the unveiling was significant as it goes a long way in demonstrating the rich history Kenya and Cuba have in terms of liberation struggles.

The park was built for heroes who relate to the liberation struggle of African independence from the colonial powers.

Mzee Jomo Kenyatta’s bust is the 17th of African Heroes on display at the park. The recognition of Kenyatta as one of African Heroes is a clear manifestation of his premier place among others in African history.

Speaking during the ceremony, Uhuru thanked Cubans for their selfless and persistent solidarity with the African people.

The President said Africa and its people will forever be grateful to Cuba as they have been the biggest benefactors of its revolutionary stance.

“Africa will forever cherish its relationship with Cuba. Together we will continue to forge mutually beneficial partnerships for the prosperity of our peoples and nations," he said.

“I take this opportunity to thank you for your solidarity and comradeship in the African liberation movements against colonialism, settler imperialism and apartheid."
