Armed gun men emerged from the bushes, shooting at the vehicle
The vehicle belonging Kenya Red Cross was ferrying staff and volunteers when it was ambushed by the unknown assailants.
The gun men who emerged from nearby bushes shot indiscriminately at the vehicle from the front and sides.
One volunteer sustained injuries during the shootout and was rushed to hospital Masalani Sub County hospital before being taken to Malindi for treatment.
The Kenya Red Cross team was on its way from Masalani to Ijara to conduct an assessment on one of the aid agency’s projects when the attack occurred.
In a statement to the press, Kenya Red Cross termed the incident “an unfortunate attack on dedicated men and women whose only commitment is to selflessly serve their communities”.
The incident was reported to the police with investigations underway to bring the perpetrators to book.
