Joho in trouble over death of 4

Over 80 people have been hospitalised in Mombasa.

Over 80 other Mombasa residents are currently receiving treatment in various public hospitals in Mombasa and the cholera outbreak is said to be spreading into neighbouring Kwale County after two people exhibited the deadly symptoms.

“We have to admit that there is a lot of garbage. But we have undertaken some measures to address the issue,” County Secretary Francis Thoya said.

As a raft of measures to stop the spread of the hygiene-related pandemic, Joho’s administration a week ago banned hawking and selling of food in open air market, in addition to rolling out a plan to have all traders receive a jab against the disease. Over 2,000 traders were immunized in the plan.

"All companies in the sector (bottled water) are hereby directed to immediately present themselves and deposit their KEBS certification with the department failure to which punitive action will be taken against them including withdrawal of their products from the market and the risk of a total ban," Health CEC Hazel Koitaba said in a statement.

The unfortunate series of events, which comes in exactly 100 days into his second term in office, has elicited mixed reactions, even as he faces a Court battle to defend his re-election against former Wiper’s Hassan Omar who petitioned his victory.

In the run-up to the August 8 general elections, Mombasa Governor announced his failure to ‘deal with the Jubilee administration’ after a series of pitfalls which he landed in due to desperate attempts to confront Uhuru Kenyatta.

“It got to a point where I had to make a decision for the people of Mombasa. I want to tell you here that it is not easy to stand before a President and tell him the bitter truth.

“I decided to face any consequences just to ensure I stand [with] the people and that is why you saw [what] I went through under the Jubilee government,” said Mr Joho.
