Death toll hits 32 in Solai Dam Tragedy

Search and rescue operations are still ongoing

Rongai OCPD Japheth Kioko, confirmed that the number is likely to increase as search and rescue operations are still ongoing.

According to Red Cross, tens of people were still unaccounted for after rescuing more than 50 .Those who were rescued were rushed to Bahati Sub-County and Nakuru Level 5 Hospitals.

More than 2,500 residents were affected after the dam broke its banks sweeping away schools and homes.

The dam is located inside the farm of prominent farmer Mansukul Patel in Solai.

Education Principal Secretary, Belio  Kipsang has ordered the closure of Solai High School following the dam collapse in the area.

He added that learning will resume after the damage caused by water have been assessed.

Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui stated that his office will do its best to ensure those affected are taken to a safer place.

" Visited two villages in Solai, Subukia that were swept away after a dam burst its bank. We will donate foodstuff & other items to displaced families.We have set up a centre near the scene for families to report missing members to enable us reunite them .”said Governor Kinyanjui
