Betty Kyallo I tried to commit suicide twice - Okari opens up on messy divorce with Betty Kyallo

Okari's emotional interview

Celebrated journalist Dennis Okari has for the first time poured his heart out on the challenges that have faced him, including the much-publicised divorce with his popular ex-wife, Betty Kyallo.

Okari confessed that as a result of the gossip, rumours, and trolls, he got depressed to the point he contemplated suicide on two separate occasions.

"I know people don't know this, but I have tried to take my life twice. The first time I wanted to crash my car on a huge rock on my way from work. Miraculously, as I drove from work on the material night, I just could not trace the boulder, it had always been there, but I couldn't trace it," the journalist told Truth FM  in candid interview.

He added that after the first attempt, things did not get better and depression led him to a second attempt at suicide.

As fate would have it, he left work late on the day he had planned to take his life, and could not find a chemist where he could get the drugs which he had hoped would offer him a painless death.

"The second time, I had planned to take an overdose of piriton tablets, about 12 of them, and sleep never to wake up. But as I came from work late in the night, I couldn't figure where to get a chemist that late in the night. And somehow it escaped my mind that I could easily google it out. Likewise, I aborted the suicide mission," he recalled.

Okari said he overcame depression after a spiritual encounter that changed the course of his life.

He has since become an active crusader of the gospel and often spends his time mentoring Christians and claimed that God had used him " to perform miracles including instant healing".

On Betty's claims that he was to blame for their collapsed marriage, Okari said he did not wish to "defend himself or tarnish someone's name in public".

"Maybe I will speak about it in future when God allows me," he said.

In a past interview, Betty said she got fed up after her former husband joined a religious group that engaged in "practices she could not fathom".
