Court gives life imprisonment to house help who abused 4 year old and filmed it

Mombasa house help stated that she had been promised money for the act

A house-help in Shanzu, Mombasa County has been handed life imprisonment after being found guilty of defiling a four-year-old and filming the act.

Senior Resident Magistrate Florence Macharia handed Edda Wakesho the life sentence for defiling the minor and additional ten years for filming the act and posting it online between June and October 2021.

Wakesho, in her defense, said she committed the crime after being promised good money by a Facebook user whom she said introduced her to a page where people post explicit images and videos.

Police investigations, however, found Wakesho to be part of a racket that uses house helps to expose children in the abusive acts.

The video which was played in court was sent to the minor’s mother who was threatened to send money or have the video shared online.

Wakesho will serve her sentence in the Shimo La Tewa Women's Prison.

In Kiambu County, a house help suspected of beating her employer’s child to death was been arrested. Maureen Nyaboke was arrested in Kahawa West after escaping from her employer.

Although a postmortem is yet to reveal the cause of the child’s death, his mother said she found his child sleeping but had bruises on his body prompting her to find out from the house help who was unable to explain what had happened to the child and escaped that night.

The child died the following day as he underwent treatment at the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The suspect is currently being held at the Kiamumbi police station as she awaits arraignment in court.

Former Nairobi governor Mike Sonko whose attention was driven to the case urged house helps with issues with their bosses not to turn on kids.

“House helps, If you have issues with your employers try to talk them out and don’t hurt young innocent souls like this handsome kid because of vengeance,” Sonko tweeted.
