Another top government official suspended

Several public officers have been sent on compulsory leave recently.

The Kenya Forest Service director Mr Emilio Mugo has been sent home by Environment CS Keriako Tobiko, over the ongoing destruction of forests.

In his position, Monica Kalenda has been appointed as the director pending investigations into Mugo's conduct, among other officials in a radical move to conserve forests.

The compulsory leave purged on the officer came hours after CS Tobiko raised a red tape over the ongoing destruction of forests.

On Monday, Tobiko accused KFS of making him believe that licences issued to members of the community forest association to practice shamba systems in government forest land are bound by conditions.

“Communities adjacent to forests are the best protectors and must benefit from the forest. They are allowed to get into the forests and plant their crops and at the same time take care of tree seedlings,” Tobiko said.

Board changes

In the radical changes announced on Monday, the KFS board also made the following changes, which, according to the CS, took effect immediately and are set to realign operations in nearly across the country.
