Amina Mohamed takes action after killing of Meru University student leader

Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed has sent Meru University Vice-Chancellor Japheth Magambo on terminal leave after the murder of student leader, Evans Njoroge.

Mr. Magambo will be replaced by Prof Charity Gichuki in an acting capacity.

Speaking after a meeting at the institution, Ms Mohamed said: "The first decision that was made was to allow Prof Magambo to proceed on leave pending the expiry of his contract in June 2018".

Amb Mohamed mentioned that the University's Counsil was working to ensure that studies resume promptly.

Njoroge, who was the Student's Secretary General, was allegedly shot dead by police officers during a chaotic demonstration at the institution.
