Gov’t Makes Drastic Move after Powerful Official resigned

Just 24 hours after resignation

In the MyGov publication, the Government announced a vacancy in the office that had been occupied by Mr. Mahamed since 2014.

Applicants should have 15 years experience in a senior management or leadership position and satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

“The Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the NGO Coordination Board will be responsible to the Board for overall planning, directing, controlling the Board’s activities. Specific duties and responsibilities will entail carrying out the day to day business of the board,” the ad reads.

On Monday, Mahamed resignation letter hit headlines in which he indicated that his last day in office would be April 30, 2018.

"I would like to wish the Board the very best in its endeavors of creating an enabling environment for the thriving of the charity sector and for the continuous demand for greater accountability and transparency amongst NGOs," Mahamed stated.

During his tenure, the NGO Board boss attracted  a lot controversies with his conduct during and after the 2017 General Election heavily questioned.

Last year, Mahamed was accused of using his position to crack down on Jubilee opponents in the political and civil society circles.

His resignation comes amid a case filed by activist Okiya Omtatah who argued that his (Fazul) retention at the NGO Board was illegal.

According to Omtatah Mahamed term of office ended November, 24 2017, yet he did not resign. The activist noted that it was against the law for Fazul to be retained as the CEO.

“The irregular retention of the interested party in the public service beyond his contractual term has blocked the advancement of other deserving Kenyans who are qualified and would vie for the position were the vacancy be advertised for the competitive recruitment of the new executive director,” Omtatah said.

Mr. Mahamed’s academic papers have also been challenged with political pundits alleging that he does not have the qualification for the position.
