My opponents are panicking, says Nzioka Waita

Waita has denied backing out of Machakos gubernatorial race

Former State House Chief of Staff and Machakos gubernatorial hopeful Nzioka Waita

Machakos gubernatorial aspirant Nzioka Waita has come out to dismiss social media claims that he has quit the race to vie saying his opponents are on a mission to disparage his name.

Social media and several WhatsApp groups have in the past few days been awash with reports of his ‘quitting'. The aspirant said the rumours were being spread by his detractors.

"It appears that the my opponents are in full panic mode ..having seen the latest Machakos Gubernatorial race polls for themselves & how their candidate’s lead has been decimated by a first timer…. in 5/8 sub-counties to a single digit margin," stated Waita in a tweet.

Unconfirmed reports circulating on mainstream media had also indicated that the former State House Chief of Staff was set to deputise former Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju who is gunning for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

These claims come just two days after Kalonzo Musyoka signed a deal with Azimio La Umoja where Wavinya Ndeti seems to have benefited because she is in Wiper.

The Azimio la Umoja umbrella on Saturday took under its wings 26 affiliate parties who attended the National Delegates Convention (NDC) and signed a coalition agreement in what has been referred to as "a coalition of the willing".

The former Vice President will support Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga and in return, Ndeti will vie for the Machakos gubernatorial seat under the Azimio La Umoja party ticket.

However, Waita too has expressed interest to vie for the Machakos gubernatorial seat, on an Azimio ticket. Tuju, on the other hand, has maintained that he can vie for an elective seat in either Siaya or Nairobi County.

"The uniqueness of my duality is that I am both from Siaya and I have spent decades in Nairobi. I can run for both County and constituency positions in both Nairobi and Siaya. I have reconciled and I am at peace with the duality," he spoke to Nation.
