GOtv increases monthly prices

MultiChoice is the leading Pay-to-Air television service provider in Kenya.

In a message to subscribers sent on Tuesday February 27, 2018 through Wednesday, February 28, 2018, GOtv announced that it will increase the price of GOtv Plus monthly subscription from Sh699 to Sh749 while GOtv Value will be billed at Sh499, up from the current Sh470.

“Dear Customer, please be advised of a price increase from April 1, 2018. New GOtv Plus monthly subscription will be Sh749 while GOtv Value will be Sh499.

Other GOtv bouquets remain unchanged. Thank you for your support,” MultiChoice Kenya Limited said in a message to customers.

In August last year, MultiChoice reduced subscription rates for all DStv packages which came to effect on September 1, 2017.

As such, Premium Bouquet was cut by 3.42 percent to Sh7,900 and Compact Plus by 4.15 percent to Sh5,200.

DSTV has also reduced compact package to Sh3,200 and Access by 9.52 percent to Sh950. However, at the time, GOtv subscription rates remained unchanged.

Costly business

The GOtv Twitter handle in a response to hundreds of customers who questioned the sudden change in prices, said that the cost of doing business in Kenya had informed the decision to increase the rates.

“This subscription price increase is necessitated by escalating costs in providing this service. However, the price increase is not in any way directly occasioned by content rather by the escalating costs in providing GOtv service,” GOtv’s official Twitter feed said, dismissing claims that the company is facing heavy taxation from the Communications Authority of Kenya.
