Jamhuri High School closed

35 students have been injured in the recent religious spat.

The management of Jamhuri High School in Nairobi was on Wednesday forced to close the school indefinitely after a wave of fights Tuesday night which left over 35 students injured.

At least 35 Jamhuri High School students are nursing injuries after students clashed emerged on Tuesday night over religious affiliations. It is alleged that the students have different libraries and toilets.

The injured students are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals in Nairobi. Nairobi security chiefs are also holed up in a meeting with the school administration.

It is alleged that the fight broke out after some of the students felt that they were sidelined over religion and that Muslim students were forcefully trying to convert Christian students into their Islam faith.

Nairobi County police boss visited the school on Wednesday morning and launched investigations into the alleged discrimination at the institution. Some students admitted to hospitals have stab wounds.

It is not clear how some students managed to get into the school with machetes and knives.

The fight broke out after a section of the students protested alleged discrimination on the basis of religion, students say.

The school's principal, Fred Awuor, was also injured during the brawl.
