Douglas Baya, a blogger who is said to be working for a local viral news website, was arrested and arraigned in court over the alleged circulation of a sex tape involving a middle-aged woman who resembled a Woman Rep.

Kiambu Senior Resident Magistrate Brian Khaemba over on Friday gave police 14 days to detain the suspect while investigations continued.

The suspect, however, did not take plea.

Cybercrime Investigating officer Bakhith Khaungu requested the court to allow the agency 14 days to obtain a forensic report on cyber crime from the Communication Authority.

Khaungu said the anti-cybercrime unit was plannning to travel to Wajir and Kakamega where they were hoping to arrest more suspects linked to the case.

Fake video

A video shared widely on social media was condemned by netizens over what most termed an assassination of character.

Some local news websites published the story with one leading with a headline that claimed it was a Woman Rep from the Northern Kenya region.

Kenyans, however, stood in solidarity with the Woman Rep whom most people vouched for and condemned the video which was said to have been compiled by her political enemies.
