Its all about being smart!

The working class was particularly hard hit by the strike as they were greeted by empty bus stations.

The only solace was motorcycles which took advantage of the situation and charged fares that would make you believe they had been tasked with the heavy burden of repaying Kenya’s debt to China.

Even for commuters who were willing to pay the high prices, many were turned off by the prospect of taking a long ride in a boda boda.

It is a no brainer that motorcycles account for a significant number of fatalities registered on Kenyan roads.

Dennis Milimo, an entertainment journalist at Pulse Live Kenya, contemplated taking a ride from South B to his work place in Kileleshwa but instead opted to walk to the CBD where he was lucky to get a PSV.

The clever Kenyans, however, took advantage of technology to car pool and get to work without much delay.

Miriam Mwende, an editor at Pulse Live Kenya, is one of those who got to work on time and without spending much trouble.

She logged into her estate Whatapp group and asked for vehicle owners who were carpooling to Nairobi, and voila - she had a free ride to work.

“I was lucky to get to work without much trouble and at zero cost. I didn’t even spend bundles because my Airtel 4G sim service grants me free whatsapp on top of my 4GB bundle subscription. Talk of the Nairobi hustle,” Mwende told this writer.

If you are not fortunate enough to have neighbours who drive, there is the second option of car pooling on the tax hailing applications.

All you will need is to subscribe to the Airtel 4G bundles which are heavily discounted, and also come with a free whatsapp.

Imagine getting the 1.5GB bundle for Sh300, 4GB will cost you Sh500, 10GB will go for Sh1000, while 15GB will set you back a mere Sh1500. There is also the 25GB and 40GB offer for heavy browsers going for Sh2000 and Sh3000 respectively.

The free whatsapp will facilitate a quick whatsapp call to your colleagues or friends who are headed in your direction.

The four of you can then gather and log into one of the mobile applications, request a cab and enjoy the ride as you catch up on Kenyans whining over the matatu strike on Twitter, be smart!
