Raila makes surprise revelation about Murkomen

Murkomen is the Senate majority leader.

Opposition chief Raila Odinga over the weekend revealed startling unknown details about Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen’s political career.

Mr Odinga Raila told mourners during the burial of ODM national deputy Treasurer Ogla Karani’s father Willy Kalebus in Chebai, Marakwet West on Saturday that Murkomen is his political child, adding that he once offered him a job.

“Murkomen is my political child. I stayed with him [Murkomen] and found out that he is a brilliant political mind and I gave him a job to teach Kenyans about devolution,” he said.

Raila also quipped that he advised Mr Murkomen to join SP Ruto’s URP camp in the run up to the 2013 general elections, which made him win the seat in Elgeyo Marakwet as a senator. Murkomen had to eventually decamp from Raila’s ODM.

“He [Murkomen] told me he will not win if he vies on an ODM ticket, and I told him to join URP,” he said.

Former IG Kimaiyo

The former Prime Minister further revealed that he was being the decision by former President Mwai Kibaki to appoint David Kimaiyo, a Inspector General of police job during the grand coalition government in 2008.

“Kimaiyo was among the most educated policemen in the country. I felt bad when he was hounded out of office before he attained retirement age,” Raila said of Mr Kimaiyo, adding that he fiercely fought bandits in the Kerio valley.
