The dealer, 27 year old Mohamed Hassan had been trailed by the police for a long while before their attack on him and 7 others after receiving a tip from the public. He was shot dead after severely injuring a police officer during the attack.

“Four of us raided the drug den in a hunt for suspects. The others surrendered but he resisted and even attacked another officer. He cut him severally on the right hand. He was so violent we had to shot him down. He was shot in the lower abdomen,” revealed one of the officers to the Star to whom he requested anonymity.

This was seconded by the Lamu county commissioner Gilbert Kitiyo who described Mohamed as dangerous.

“It’s true. The officers had to shoot the suspect dead. He even attacked and physically assaulted one of the officers with a machete. They had to act in self-defence. Several sachets of heroin and two machetes were recovered from him,” said the commissioner.

Also in Lamu, 10 other highly wanted drug lords have been nubbed by the men in blue.

Amongst them are top drug dealers, Mohamed Abu Sono and Atwas Mohammed Masoud who is set to also be charged for countless of other crimes.

The list includes:

Ahmed Bwanamkuu, Ali Bwanamkuu, Yusuf Swalihina, Binkaim Yusu, Issa Bwanadi Abuu, Omar Hussein Shee, Ali Ahmed Abdalla some of whom were found in possession of heroin and other apparatus used in smoking and sniffing the drugs.

Their arrest comes just after a previous 10 had been nubbed and charged in court when the crackdown began last week at the beginning of the month.

The crew of drug heads will be arraigned in court come Monday. Their arrest was by Police Officers in Kizingitini Police Station as lead by OCS Elam Esendi in Lamu East.
