"We're celebrating the 60th Mashujaa Day in Kericho County, one of the colonial hotspots in the country, whose people were stripped of their right to land. We join together with the people of this county and the country at large to celebrate the gallant men and women who fought to restore our freedom and dignity," Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua

President William Ruto: Mashujaa Day is a celebration of the power of individuals to change the course of history and the destiny of a nation. It is a reminder that nations are driven forward and changed by individuals who believe they can make a difference and change the status quo.

Ruto: Our heroes today are in farms, markets, factories, offices, in construction sites, and many other places. Our heroes are using their creativity to create content and shape culture. They are playing on fields, running on tracks and working across many other fields.

Ruto: In the Kenya Kwanza plan, delivery of primary health services at the community level will start with Community Health Promoters and we are proud that they are represented in this Mashujaa Day. Their work will include:-

  1. Basic preventive and promotive healthcare
  2. Health education
  3. Basic first aid for the treatment of minor injuries & ailments at household level
  4. Referral for facility-based healthcare

Ruto: We are implementing a per-household payment system, where a flat-rate applies to everyone regardless of their income.
For example, an individual earning Sh10,000 had to pay Sh400 to NHIF, a hefty 5% of their earnings. On the other hand, those with salaries of Sh100,000 or more contributed Sh1,700, a mere 1.7% of their income.
The Social Insurance Fund corrects this anomaly and makes sure that every citizen pays for health a percentage of their income and at an equal percentage of their income.

Ruto: Let's dedicate ourselves to nation-building endeavours assured that as long as we are implementing the Bottom-Up national transformation agenda, your government stands with you and will walk the road of growth and development with every Kenyan until we accomplish our purpose and fulfill our mission.
