Speaking to the Press, the Federation’s chairperson Edwin Mukabana said the strike is to challenge Interior CS Fred Matiang’i’s directive to have the ‘Michuki rules’ enforced beginning Monday.
A report by Citizen Digital said that the federation had also written to the Transport Ministry seeking clarification on sections of the set directives and would not return to work if their complaints are not fully addressed.
Restoring sanity
This comes a day after CS Matiang’i said that the crackdown was aimed at restoring sanity on Kenyan roads in the wake of recent accidents that have seen hundreds of Kenyans lose lives.
The Interior and Transport CS’s had given Matatu owners a two weeks grace period to make sure they comply with the re-introduced Michuki rules.
