Sonko officially suspends top manager at City Hall

The new turn comes barely a week after the governor found over Sh7 million un-banked collections.

The eventual sacking of the Finance Officer at City Hall comes a day after he issued a new order directing all cash flow within City Hall to be fully automated in order to seal all loopholes that lead to theft.

According to Mr Sonko, the new order was meant to bring to an end the infamous ‘cash office’ within City Hall.

“Nobody will be allowed to pay cash to acquire any service. I also intend to increase annual revenue from Sh15.5 billion to 30 billion. My government will also ensure proper streamlined decentralisation of services to ensure this is achieved,” Sonko said on Monday.

The new directive follows last week’s sting operation at City Hall led by Sonko which recovered Sh7 million with City Hall workers.

Sonko personally led the raid at the County Cash Offices following a tip off from an anonymous source and found the millions in cash with the county workers.

Last week, Governor Sonko reprimanded the cash office at the key City Hall facility for stashing cash on tables.

“It is unacceptable that yesterday’s collections running into millions of shillings in cash were still with the cashiers at 11am and yet the bank is only 50 meters away,” Sonko said.
