Kiunjuri reveals why he tabled Muhoho Kenyatta's company in parliament

Muhoho Kenyatta's proxy has claimed that he imported sugar to be used in making yoghurt

The MP on Tuesday told a parliamentary committee that the President's brother, Mr Muhoho Kenyatta's company, Protech Investment Limited, had imported about 180,000 metric tonnes of brown sugar into the country, and alleged a plot to shield the younger Kenyatta from investigation.

In a press conference however, CS Kiunjuri has told the Ruto ally that the fight against contraband goods in the  country would not be used for political gains, sparking yet another fallout, even as DP Ruto’s camp moot leaving Jubilee.

“It is wrong to use one's privileged position to malign another person or politicise the war against corruption. I gave lists of all registered companies to import sugar and those who imported.

“The allegations of the MP for Aldai are unfortunate and misleading. The named company didn't even import a single grain of sugar.

“I expected that the list I gave was corrected. But for one to think they can gain headlines by mentioning the name of Uhuru Kenyatta or his family in a crude, village-like manner to intimidate us is wrong. I am not leaving this office until I get a report from AFA. This issue is not rocket science” the CS has told a press conference in Nairobi.

A source had disclosed that it was malicious to drag President’s brother into the investigations.

"The company is not part of these sugar imports. They are just importers of industrial sugar used for making yoghurt and other milk products at Brookside Dairy," the Standard quoted the source close to Muhoho as saying.

Mr Matiang’i was the first Government official to confirm that sugar meant for consumption was laced with mercury and copper. His allegations were denied by Trade CS Adan Mohammed.

Parliament summoned CSs Matiang'i, Mohammed, Kiunjuri and Henry Rotich (National Treasury) to shed more light to the claims that have since caused an uproar in the country.

On Monday, Agriculture CS appeared before the committee where he laid blame on the National Treasury for the entry of the poisonous sugar into the county.

According to Mr. Kiunjuri, a gazette notice issued by the National Treasury in May 2017 opened the way for anyone to import sugar duty-free.
