Controversy after police released CCTV footage of gunman at Raila’s Swearing-in

Are CCTVs working?

The man, who was allegedly part of NASA supporters headed to Uhuru Park for the controversial event, was captured trying to shoot at a police vehicle. Police asked the public to help identify the man noting that there was a cash reward for this.

However, the release of the video left many Kenyans puzzled as the police is on record unable to release CCTV recording during others crimes in the City.

Kenyans were quick to respond with a section raising pertinent questions regarding the cameras.

Here are the reactions:

In 2015, Nairobi County Assembly’s Transport Committee compiled a report stating that the Sh430 million cameras cannot capture reliable images to pin down criminals and traffic offenders.

According to the report that 33 out of the 40 functioning cameras produce such low-quality images that they cannot be relied on by security agencies.
