Nationwide protests against government's actions to begin on Monday

Protest set for Monday as NASA politicians await their days in court

The protests named “Yellow Ribbon Campaign” come in the wake of numerous instances where government officials defied court orders and failed to present themselves or suspects in court as directed, prompting the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to call for the protests.

LSK President Isaac Okero noted that “when a government shows contempt for the law it becomes impossible for it to require citizens to respect the law”.

“Now we must protest the level of impunity shown by state and public officers which is a threat to the rule of law.” He added.

The protest will see lawyers boycott court proceedings as they urge the state to respect court orders and the constitution.

Following the recent developments, Chief Justice David Maraga issued a terse statement criticizing state agencies and officials for disregarding court orders.

Meanwhile, the National Super Alliance (NASA) is readying its troops for a battle in court in defense of several NASA politicians who have so far been arrested by the police.

The deportation of self-declared National Resistance Movement (NRM) general Miguna Miguna will also be challenged in court.
