NTV journalists arrested, another goes into hiding

Journalists under attack

Two Nation Media Group (NMG) journalists have been detained at Bamburi police station.

NTV cameraman Karim Rajan and Daily Nation photographer Laban Walloga were apprehended while on official duty in Mombasa where they were filming the construction of a multi-billion hotel in Shanzu.

In a video circulated by the Aga Khan-owned media group, the duo is seen being harassed by workers at the construction site.

Winnie Atieno, a reporter, fled the scene for her safety when her colleagues were attacked and she is currently in hiding.

The hotel, allegedly owned by a top Government official, is said to be intruding into the Indian Ocean.

According to a report by the local daily, the Thursday arrests were supervised by a senior police officer from Bamburi police station.

Kenya Editor's Guild chairman Churchill Otieno condemned the arrests stating: "This is unacceptable. No one has a right to block journalists from doing their work."
