Orengo explains himself after reports he has threatened Uhuru-Raila handshake [Full Statement]

Why Orengo is not happy

IEBC attacks Siaya Senator James Orengo over comments on disbandment of electoral body, dares him to resign

The Star had on Monday reported that Orengo had set a condition requiring President Kenyatta to compensate victims of police brutality during the contentious 2017 election.

The daily further claimed Jubilee officials had directed Odinga to settle the matter with Orengo before President Kenyatta can visit Kisumu on Thursday.

The Senator, however, has denied the reports and clarified that he would unconditionally welcome the head of state to Nyanza.

He also reiterated his full support for the Building Bridges initiatives advocated by the two leaders.

Here is Orengo's full statement:

Senator James Orengo has read in today's Monday Star a headline purporting that he is rivaling Rt. Hon Raila Odinga. The headline is based on rumours, malice and utter nonsense. Such headlines and news can only find traction in feeble and gullible minds.

One week ago, Senator Orengo informed the country while speaking in Migori County at the funeral service of the late Stella Ruguru, the mother to Awendo MP Hon. Walter Owino of the visit by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the counties of Kisumu and Siaya. He asked the people to welcome the president and support the Building Bridges Initiative because it is the only way to a united Kenya.

Senator Orengo therefore appeals to Kenyans to consider the views published in the Star today as those of the authors and not his. These views have been held by the star for long and he is considering taking legal action against them for he knows the source and how it was crafted and fed to selected purveyors of lies and evil designs.

Senator Orengo finally appeals to Kenyans to stay focused on the Building Bridges Initiative and further reiterates that he supports the need for a peaceful coexistence among Kenyans. He welcomes the President to Kisumu and Siaya unconditionally and will continue offering his full support to the Handshake as designed by President Uhuru Kenyatta and His Excellency Raila Odinga.
