The company responded after researchers at the State University of New York (SUNY) established that Dasani is among the numerous bottled water products that are contaminated by small pieces of plastics.
The company responded through an Interview on BBC where it explained that it observed some of the highest quality standards which involves numerous filtration processes.
Coca Cola, however, admitted that micro-plastics “appear to be ubiquitous and therefore may be found at minute levels even in highly treated products”.
Av similar study had last year sought to establish the level of micro-plastics in tap water.
The latest survey follows a tap water study released in September last year showing the level of plastic pieces concentration.
“We found roughly twice as many plastic particles within bottled water as compared to tap water on average,” the study observed.
Scientists have been carrying out extensive research to establish the effect of plastic pollution on the body and on the ecosystem.
As of yet, there is no evidence that supports that ingesting small pieces of plastic is harmful.
