Kenyan Permanent Secretary to be jailed for 6 months

The PS had been sued by a family for not honoring a land compensation deal.

PS Saitoti Torome had been sued by a family for not honoring a land compensation deal.

Eunice Makori and Hellen Makone surrendered a parcel of land in 2006 to the government. As a result, the mother and daughter requested through the court, for compensation from the government.

The family successfully won the compensation case eight years ago and were entitled to Sh 9.2 million with interest.

However, the court ruling was not honored. Ms Makori claims that she personally made visits to Mr Torome, who is the accounting officer in the ministry, but nothing came out of it.

It is then that she decided to file for a miscellaneous suit in 2016 to compel the PS and The Devolution Ministry to pay the sum.  She also asked the court to issue a warrant for the arrest of the permanent secretary.

The Inspector of police is said to not have honored the arrest warrant. Mr Torome failure to show up in court for mitigation led to the sentencing.
