Raila & DP Ruto give Kenyans hope amid high fuel prices

Do not worry everything will be sorted

Speaking during different functions, DP Ruto and Mr. Odinga assured the public that the 16-percent VAT on fuel will be deliberated upon in order to cushion Kenyans from the heavy taxation.

DP Ruto mentioned that the Executive will hold talks with Parliamentarians over the new taxes on fuel. However, he insisted that the solution will not affect the development projects launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta-led government.

"The Executive will be meeting Parliament to address the concerns raised. A solution will be reached. We will deliberate on how to get money to finance the project. We will also ensure that there is a balance in this," he said.

At the same time, Mr. Odinga who was in Kisumu as the chief guest at the National Government Affirmative Action Fund Tournament stated that President Kenyatta will intervene.

"The issue of increasing fuel prices cannot continue, it has to stop. Members of Parliament already made amendments to the Finance Bill and removed the 16% V.A.T. Uhuru will intervene very soon, just wait and see," the former Prime Minister said.

National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich directed the implementation of the 16-percent VAT as of September 1, 2018, amid protest from legislators who said that it should be suspended until 2022.

President Kenyatta has two weeks to suspend the Bill to suspend the new taxes.

In Nairobi, a litre of petrol now retails at Sh127.80, diesel goes for Sh115.08 while kerosene is selling at Sh97.41 per litre.
